Rabbit (2010)

Lyrics and Notes

Simon Magus

From above, I’ve watched us drift apart, drift apart
Now I look at the screen As I wander into doors of shredded ribbon
Two golden glowing moons, changing shape
Star Sun and Moon Man leads a way underground
“Everyone who dwells here is safe”
And it is there I think of ways To tangle myself in wires
Until the will to untie my knots is gone
I turn blue before your eyes From a chemical in my design
And I will revel in the view Of colors and pixels not seen in my life
I hear things I always wanted to hear from someone I always wanted to know
“What you were seeking was worth waiting for”
Never bending to break, or sleeping to dream
Alone, from above I can hear your words To the Ghost of Wonders and Signs
And for a moment I see myself returning to the Earth in four broken pieces
As Simon, Deceiver of Men
Would you have this gift To bewitch with wonders and signs
And for the payment your silver and gold
I pray for your soul O Simon refuter so that your sins may be forgiven you
As you diminish may your wealth diminish with you
As the night wore on they spoke to me “Someday we’ll be back to take you away”
The Hunter was dressed as the Sorcerer fell to his death
Returns to the four corners of the Earth
And I saw the emerging monotheistic storm clouds
And the sick were made well again

Diamondized

I used to let that get to me
Now I look for the good in it
You will too
I wish this wasn’t happening
But all I can do is look away
You will too
Behind every day lit corner of you
A shadow is growing in me
One too many holes I’ve had to avoid
That could not be deeper in the earth
So many ideas I’ve tried to ignore
That follow me into my bed
One too many thoughts I’ve had to avoid
That could not be deeper in my head
I used to let that get to me
Now I look for the good in it
Behind every day lit corner of you
A shadow is growing in me
One too many thoughts I’ve had to avoid
That could not be deeper in my head
With your eerie eyes, better luck next time
If you can’t see me, then I can’t see you
With your eerie eyes, better luck next time

The Night I Killed Steve Shelley

Please forgive my friend
He reads all those stories
Of strange lights and weather balloons
Said he saw one last year
Drop behind the mountains
I told him he was an atheist
We stayed outside an hour
To meet the Queen and her friends
They had been making honey
But we were there for some pictures…
It was late when we started seeing lights
They were used to seeing lights
The White Rhino asked me for the safest way home
My intent was pure but misguided
Now I keep my mouth shut when asked for advice
If he ever found his way, I don’t know…

There’s a little shadow box of porcelain dolls and they sparkle
Only when you look at them
There’s a little shadow box of aging dolls and they sparkle
Only when you look at them

Royal Oil Can

The only good that could have come of this
Is if I learned from my mistakes
But still I’m pulled in by an iron tide
That knocks me down, right back in the sand
They made me wait outside ’til I fell asleep
There was so much snow, I couldn’t move
And when I woke up, I was in love with bad ideas
And cold weather moods
When I came back after the storm had passed
And realized how long I’d been gone
I set out looking for the people that
I used to know, before I fell asleep
But they left me in the pool ’til I learned to swim
There was so much rain, I couldn’t breathe
And when I closed my eyes, the things I used to see had changed…

But then, I hear a siren and a voice say
“The love that you were seeking was worth waiting for”
Heart in hand, The Iron Woodsman clears a path
I’m on my roof, as everything turns white
Someone is carrying me
And taking me to the Stars, Sun, and Moon
And when I woke up, the things I used to feel were gone

Out Of The Oceans

Make a little box with a little bow
Hide it in the dark in a secret place
You might get by And never know What the damage was
Do you know who told you everything you’re telling me?
Don’t think about it It’ll go away
You’ll forget about it In a sacred home
Have faith in what you don’t believe
You’re the lucky ones
Do you know who told you everything you’re telling me?
And catch a bug (Out of the oceans)
Pull out his wings (Into the history books)
Give him to your kids (We were the first and are the last)
Show them how we live (Created as tormentors for the rest)
Made to torment the rest
Do you really think That you really know
What you really want?
Do you know who told you everything?
Saw a life changing scene, shrugged my shoulders and left
Now I’m one of you leading remarkable lives

He used to look out the window
And his mind would move in patterns
With the light that never warmed him
And he saw how easy it would be
To go there someday
And it’s wrong
That I don’t understand you
But in our place
There was shown new love
And mercy

He Is Like A Spider

Help us destroy ourselves And you can start over
And I looked and saw that this was where I had come from
I learned that to be a man was to respect cruelty
And drive the weakest into the ground
He fell by the wayside And they laughed
At the huddled janitorial mass
Now that you’re gone I will never be the same
It was a time that we will never get back
A life that will never return
And it turned out that Life was exactly the way
I hoped it wouldn’t be
And when we are gone
The Earth will remember us
With tumors

Nuclear Density Gauge

From now on this place will have no power
It disappeared from the room, like it was just a dream
And all that was will be as still as sleep
It disappears as the doors close without a whisper

You can see smoke through the cracks under the door
It’s not safe here, All worlds are cruel
You can see smoke, and if you don’t get out soon
You’ll fall asleep And never wake up
And this is what happens when you wait for a miracle To pull you out
Just when I thought someone else Was gonna take care of it
It turned out that I had to Do it all along
Keep away from that room with The Carnation Laurel Leaf Mirror Image
Keep away from that room with The Carnation Laurel Leaf Mirror Image
Just when the concrete had dried, When the foundation was set
When we though we had all night, See the Sun come up…

From now on this place will have no power
It disappeared from the room, like it was just a dream
And all that was will be as still as sleep
It disappears as the doors close without a whisper
And on that day, you were saved You were shown another way
And I was there to see the devil let you go with a whisper
From now on this place has lost all it’s power
Have no care, He said it would be so
All the words had meaning All The people screaming
And I looked up to the sky and saw you were gone

Before I go, sing to me of the Lion and the Lamb
And I will seem as of one returning to the womb
And tell me stories of heroes worthy of imitation
And of a God presiding over a world full of meaning
Who steals the years When you’re running from the day?
Come back and sing to me

Tumbleweeds

At night it gets so cold
Like when you and I were alone
A breath, a snow washed sky
A Blue Morning Moon
The wall is stone and it reaches high
A garden surrounds the hole Where all the king’s men
Slowly, slowly, move across the ice
See, in the next life, I must look dead Frozen in the Silver Flower Bed
But you can see the steam Breathing from my mouth
At night it gets so cold
Like when you and I were alone
A breath, a snow washed sky
A Blue Morning Moon
Spin hair from black into a grey
A thousand years ago… Can you not let the past be?
Or do you still lay down to a locked jaw?
Out on the thin ice, I go instead Frozen in the Silver Flower Bed
If you’d give me the will, The will to love you
See, in the next life, I must look dead Frozen in the Silver Flower Bed
But you can see the steam Breathing from my mouth
Yes you can see the steam
Breathing from my mouth

Astro

Somebody said, late at night, when it rains
That you can hear the dreams of the world
But when it rains, I dream of the spiders
In the corners of my janitor’s closet
He used to move with the wind at his back
Before a life of disappointment…
I stand in the place I will stay
For the rest of my days
And I don’t feel anything
The time will wash by, all I will know
Is the smell of sanitized floors and walls
And I don’t feel anything
How many years have been lost?
How many days in this place?
But when it rains the roof leaks
In buckets of soap and water
In buckets of soap and water
No stories, no glory, only soap and water
No stories, no glory, only soap and water
With a life of disappointment
No stories, no glory, only soap and water
No stories, no glory, only soap and water
When it rains with disappointment
The Moon on the hill
A dark ocean sky
The curtains rise…
They’re trying to tell us We have all night We have all night
Lacerta
Cetus
Anusta
In the Gallery of Chameleon

All that was left is quiet sleep
You were there to remind me
As I walked through the door
Everything stepped out of place
A home with no memory
I don’t want to be here anymore
I don’t understand anything anymore
I want to go home
All of this
This is not my home…

For years he has come to this hill
With the promise that one day they’ll return
To take him away but on this night he sits in reverie
I will stay
And wait
For the wind and the rain…
